AI Descriptions

The AI Description button (look for the spark icon on the inventory detail drawer) generates a fresh listing description for the selected item using Claude. It is a starting point — you should always read and verify before pushing the description to eBay.

How it works

When you click the AI button we send Claude:

• The item title.
• The condition (Like New, Very Good, Good, etc.).
• The category.
• Any existing description text (so the regeneration can build on it instead of replacing useful detail).
• A small style template — our default is collector-friendly, factual, no superlatives — which you can customize in Settings → AI.

We do not send images, your eBay account info, or any other user data. Claude returns a fresh description in a few seconds; you can accept, edit, or regenerate.

What it is good at

• Rewriting tired descriptions — clean up wall-of-text descriptions imported from other tools.
• Filling missing detail — if you give it a comic book title and condition, it will pull in publisher, era, and key reference points.
• Consistency — applies your saved style template across hundreds of items without you re-typing the same boilerplate.

What it is not good at

• Inventing condition detail you did not provide. If the item has a small water stain on page 14 and you did not type that into the condition note, the AI will not know — it will write a generic "Very Good" description.
• Pricing or comp analysis. This is a description-only tool. Use the inventory drawer's price-history view for pricing context.
• Niche slang or community jargon. Claude is broad but generic. Edit in your own voice if you want collector-community phrasing.

What you must verify

Before posting any AI-generated description, check:

1. The condition matches reality. AI errors on this side cause the most disputes.
2. No fabricated details. Claude can confidently invent provenance ("first printing", "rare variant") if the title is ambiguous. Cross-check anything that affects value.
3. The character count is within eBay's limit. eBay caps descriptions at 80,000 characters; we warn if Claude's output exceeds that.

Token usage and caps

Each generation consumes a small number of tokens, billed against our shared Pro pool — you do not pay per generation, but heavy users may see soft caps. Current caps:

• 500 generations per month for individual Pro users.
• 50 generations per minute (rate limit, not a hard cap; refills automatically).

Bulk AI?

We do not offer bulk AI generation. It is too easy to bulk-publish thirty subtly-wrong descriptions; the slow-down of clicking one at a time is a feature.

Disabling AI

If you do not want AI features at all, toggle Settings → AI → Disabled. The button will disappear from the inventory drawer. You can re-enable at any time — there is no token consumption when disabled.
